Best At Home All Natural Face Masks

Natural food has been used for facials since ancient times, but beauty experts have now embarked on treating the skin with offbeat ingredients such as beer, açai berries, and even—trust it—spirulina powder!

At Home Facials With Offbeat Unconventional Treatments

To quote Francesca, a dermatologist in New York City: “These new treatments tend to be more potent than their predecessors, yet they remain gentle enough for most complexions.”

What’s more as since you can do it yourself at home, you can pamper your skin anytime convenient to you and don’t need to go to any spa.

Here are five of my favorite facials that I recommend for you to try at home.

Natural Beauty Tip: Make sure that prior to each one, gently cleanse and exfoliate (unless otherwise noted) for the best results.

Unconventional DIY At Home Facial Masks

1. DIY Wine Facial To Make Your Skin Wrinkle-Free:

You will need:

(i) Red Wine: 1/4 cup

(ii) Kaolin clay: 1/4 cup (You can get it online or from health-food stores)

(iii) Grape seed oil: 2 tablespoons

(iv) Organic oat flour: 1 table spoon (Get from health-food stores)

Benefits: Red wine contains a potent antioxidant, known as resveratrol. According to a growing body scientific study it may help to treat the impairment caused due to sun exposure that can otherwise result into wrinkles and sagging of your skin. While Kaolin clay pulls out impurities, the oat flour gently exfoliates and grape seed oil naturally hydrates and moisturizes the skin.

Method: Mix well all the ingredients together. Apply onto the face, neck, and cleavage. Wait for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

This mask smells awesome. Apply this mask on your face after a long, hard day of work, relax and enjoy a glass of your favorite wine.

2. At Home Pore-Tightening Açai Berry Facial Mask:

You will need:

(i) Sugar: 2/3 cup

(ii) Acai Powder: 2 teaspoons, or alternatively 1/4 cup of acai slush1/4 (a pulverized form of the berry, both are available at health-food stores)

(iii) Whole berries: 10 fresh, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or a mix

(iv) Olive oil: 1 tablespoon, extra virgin

Benefits: Berries are packed with polyphenols, a category of antioxidants, which is not only used as wrinkle busters, but have another great property of being a powerful astringent, so they tighten the skin and minimize pores as well, according to some dermatologists. Your pores will indeed become undetectable and still your face will not feel even the slightest bit tight.

As per a 2010 report published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, fatty acids in high doses such as the ones contained in açai berries, seem to fight hyperpigmentation. The sugar and the olive oil together form a mild scrub that helps in getting rid of impurities trapped in pores, revealing clear, smooth skin – although slightly purple-tinged from the açai powder; but nothing to worry as that can be easily fixed with a makeup wipe.

Method: Mix the sugar and açai powder or slush with the berries and mash them using a potato masher. While adding in the extra virgin olive oil slowly, whisk all the ingredients together to have a coarse mixture. Massage the mask onto your face and neck, leaving it on for about 5-10 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

3. At Home Hydrating Strawberry Facial Mask:

You will need:

(i) Strawberries: 10 fresh

(ii) Bee pollen: 1/4 cup (available at health-food stores)

(iii) Raw honey: 3 tablespoons, organic

(iv) Olive oil: 1 tablespoon, extra virgin

(v) Mayonnaise: 1 tablespoon

(v) Lavender essential oil: Few drops

Benefits: Strawberries are chockfull of vitamin C and but also contain alpha hydroxy acids as well that help exfoliate the skin. The coarse texture of the bee-pollen granules also contributes to exfoliation, enabling the honey, a powerful humectant, to deeply penetrate the skin’s surface with ease. Olive oil is fortified with antioxidants and also works as a natural moisturizer. Mayonnaise makes the skin softer while providing velvety texture. The lavender? Pure aromatic!

Method: Whisk well all the ingredients together. Message gently onto your face and neck gently, leaving the eye area. Wait for about 20 minutes, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This mask will make your skin so soft that you may not even need to apply moisturizer.

4. Homemade Brightening Beer Face Mask:

You will need:

(i) Egg white: 1

(ii) Beer: 1/2 cup (any brand)

(ii) Lime juice: 2 teaspoons, freshly squeezed

Benefits: Beer acts as a gentle cleanser. It has B vitamins; hops, saccharides, and yeast that help dissolve dead skin cells and augment your skin’s radiance.  When combined with egg white, the yeast in the beer makes a translucent mask that moisturizes and enhances elasticity of the skin. Mixing in a shot of lime or lemon juice, a rich source of vitamin C assists to cleanse pores and lighten brown spots.

Method: Whisk the egg white until you get a frothy solution and mix well with the beer and lime juice. Slather over all over your face, avoiding the eye area. This mask is so filmy that it dries out on your skin fast and you can do your household chores with it on. Wait for 10-15 minutes, rinse it off with water. Wow, your skin will become so silky smooth and luminous that you will feel 10 years younger.

5. Skin-Balancing Facial At Home:

You will need:

(i) Spirulina powder: 1/2 teaspoon (available at health-food stores)

It also has antibacterial properties, which work effectively to cleanse the skin pores. The banana helps to make the powder spreadable and also instills moisture into your skin. Lemon juice lightens the skin.
