Do it yourself facemasks

1. For all skin types:

(i) Try this quick face mask to brighten your skin: Cut a slice of ripe papaya. Remove its seed and pulp. Rub the inside of papaya peel on your face, neck and hands. Allow it to dry for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off. You can apply papaya face mask twice a week. The papaya contains enzymes, which can exfoliate, heal sun damage, reduce age spots and tone up your skin.

(ii) Homemade DIY Oatmeal Face Mask to exfoliate your skin: Mix 1 tsp. of honey with 1 tsp. of olive oil. Separately make some plain oatmeal with lesser amount of water than called for, so that a thick paste is formed. Combine the honey and olive oil mixture with this paste. Use this thick paste as a scrub and rub it over your skin gently with your fingers in small circular motions. Wash it off with lukewarm water and pat dry your face. This DIY face mask has oatmeal to exfoliate and at the same time has honey and olive oil to moisturize.

(iii) Essential oils face mask to cleanse: Mix 1 tbsp. of plain yogurt with 2 tsp. of olive oil and 1/2 tsp. of lemon oil. Do not confuse lemon juice with lemon oil.  Lemon oil is an essential oil that you can procure from health and food stores. Make this mixture a bit runny, but not thin enough to be easily poured out. Massage it gently over skin with your fingers, and then immediately cleanse this mixture with a washcloth, soaked in lukewarm water. You can do it daily to see how clean and soft your skin can feel.  This is a very light natural homemade cleanser, unlike the harsher products available in the market at hefty prices.

2. For oily and blemish prone skin:

(i) Lemon and yogurt face mask to lift and tighten your skin: Mix 2 tbsp. of plain yogurt with 1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice. Apply this mixture on your cleansed face and neck. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes. This mask will lift and tighten your skin. You can leave it on for a longer period, up to one hour, to achieve even more tightening and lifting of the skin on your face. Once you are done with, you can wash your face with lukewarm water followed by a cold water rinse. This DIY face mask not only tightens your skin, but also causes to fade away age spots, acne scars and further keeps blemishes and acne under control. Moreover, it helps giving you an even tone skin.

3. Green Tea / Chamomile for daily cleansing and toning: This is one of the best toning treatment and gives much more cooling effect than even the traditional cucumber. It helps to relax your eyes and vitalize your skin. Cleanse your skin in a normal way, and then brew a cup of chamomile or green tea and let it cool down. Then soak two clean, round cotton balls in it and squeeze out the excess liquid. Place one each on your eyes for 10 minutes or so. This will de-puff and refresh your eyes. Also apply this cooled green tea as a toner on your face daily.
