Learn in this article how to make homemade face cleansers for oily skin with natural ingredients available at home.

Our skin is exposed to pollution & sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays daily. It comes in contact with dust, grime, and various toxic chemicals. They not only damage the skin but make it look dull and oily as well. A good cleanser can help remove all this unwanted ‘baggage’ from our skin without stripping off its natural oils.

Cleansing is essential in any skincare routine to keep our skin rejuvenated, healthy, and glowing. Oily skin needs extra care! Most importantly, you will need a cleanser that can specifically cleanse the oiliness of your skin and manage oily skin issues.

Honey And Lemon Juice

Lemon has a high amount of citric acid, which makes it a perfect natural cleansing agent for oily skin. Thanks to its astringent properties, which help control excessive oil production by the skin. Moreover, it treats acne and brightens skin as well.

Honey makes an ideal partnership with lemon. It maintains the right balance by hydrating and nourishing the skin.

You will need

(i) Honey: 2 tablespoons

(ii) Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon, freshly squeezed

  • Mix well the honey and lemon juice in the above ratio. If you feel the mixture is too thick, add a small amount of water.
  • Apply the mixture onto your face and gently massage for a minute.
  • Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes to allow its goodness to get absorbed by the skin.
  • Wash it off with plain water.
  • Pat your skin dry.
  • Apply a moisturizer meant for oily skin or some jojoba oil.

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay is one of the best cosmetic clays for oily skin. Because of its high absorbing characteristic, it can absorb extra oil from the skin and pull out all those skin-damaging impurities. As it sucks out all the excessive oil, it also helps ease acne woes.

You only need bentonite clay for this cleanser.

  • Mix one tablespoon of bentonite clay well with a small amount of water to make a thick, spreadable paste.
  • Apply it all over the face (avoiding eyes), and allow it to dry out. Wash it off with water.

How frequently to use it?

You can use 2-3 times a week.

Bonus Tips:

  • Control Oily Skin When Outdoors: Always carry with you a face mist and spritz it on whenever you feel like refreshing your face. Also, keep in your bag a spray-on sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun, which suits your skin type.
  • Use A Moisturizer: Moisturizing oily skin is as important as moisturizing dry skin. However, for oily skin, use a moisturizer that is specially formulated for oily skin. Make sure to use lightweight face serums and avoid creams type because they are typically too heavy for oily skin.
