anti aging cumin face scrubI am always very careful with what cleansers or scrubs I use on my face. Very rarely do I use store-bought face scrubs, as I’ve had reactions to a number of them. However, this homemade face scrub is made with all natural ingredients and no hidden chemicals.

I love this antioxidant cumin face scrub. This is made by using only natural ingredients, all of which are very beneficial to the skin.  It is anti aging, will tone your skin and make your skin feel great. Best is that you can make it according to your skin type and you will know what exactly you are putting on your face!

Can Cumin Seeds Be Used For Making Exfoliating Face Scrub?

Most of you must have been using cumin seeds for cooking purpose only. But many of you must be apprehensive about using cumin for creating a sugar scrub!

The cumin in this recipe is exquisitely blended with warm and woodsy essential oil fragrances like frankincense and sweet orange oils. Have no fear, I have used it and be rest assured this scrub smells pleasantly exotic.

This scrub is designed to be gentle enough for the face, but you can actually use it on your whole body!

And what more, this can be used by the men in your life (even by your teenage son if he is suffering from acne perchance!)

How Cumin Benefits Your Skin?

Cumin is high in inflammation-fighting antioxidants, so it helps repair damaged skin to keep it looking young. It fights the free radicals that attack the skin and cause signs of ageing like wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin.

Cumin is also naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, so it soothes skin and keeps it blemish free. The combination of antioxidant effects and antibacterial properties of cumin provides you with a healthy, beautiful skin that lasts far into your old age.

Cumin has disinfectant and anti-fungal properties, which protect your skin from fungal and microbial infections.

The essential oils contained in this scrub helps to tone the skin and boost circulation.

Which Essential Oils Go Best With Cumin And Their Skin Benefits

Most citrus oils are phototoxic and the  ones like ginger and cinnamon need more precautions when used on skin.

I’ve gone through the woodsy category carefully and selected tea tree, frankincense, sandalwood, and cedarwood and one citrus oil, namely, sweet orange that isn’t phototoxic. Taking further precautions, I’ve also kept the dilution rate well within maximum limits for skin safety.

Tea Tree: It helps combat acne, soothes itching, and balances oily skin.

Frankincense: It helps diminish scars, stretch marks and is rejuvenating to the skin. Its scent is calming and soothing to the mood.

Sandalwood: Its sensual aroma is known for aphrodisiac property. It helps to get rid of chapped skin, balances oily skin, fades scars and stretch marks, and is great for sensitive skin.

Cedarwood: There are two types of cedarwood essential oil, namely, Atlas cedarwood and Virginia cedarwood. Atlas cedarwood is more pungent and fights acne, dandruff, and dermatitis. Virginia cedarwood shrinks pores, balances oily skin, fades acne, and is antiseptic.

Sweet Orange: Unlike blood orange or bitter orange, sweet orange is not phototoxic. It helps to improve circulation, boost the mood, and brighten dull skin.

Use Carrier Oil According To Your Skin Type

Find here the best carrier oils according to your skin type. That is the beauty of DIY products as you can tailor-made them in accordance with your specific skin type.

All Skin Types – Sweet almond oil is a great option for most skin types and one of my preferred carrier oils for homemade beauty products.

Dry Skin – Try olive oil. It’s heavier, more moisturizing option and excellent for drier or more mature skin types.

Oily Skin – Thinner than both olive and sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil is best choice for oily skin.

(i) Mix the carrier oil, honey, and essential oil(s) in a small bowl.

(ii) Add the ground cumin and sugar to the mixture. Stir well to combine using a rubber spatula. Your exfoliating sugar scrub is ready. Transfer it to a glass jar and store in a cool, dry place. I use these containers.

(iii) Take a generous amount of the scrub and rub it over face, and body as desired. When done rinse it off.

Storage: Transfer the unused scrub to an airtight container and keep it in cool, dark place. Can last up to 4 months if you avoid getting water into the scrub, as this can cause it to decay.
