Most people temp to buy a product from the market, but some of the creams, which we use during winters contain harmful chemicals – so not good for your skin. On the contrary, home-based products are made up of natural ingredients and they are always safe to use.

1. Lavender And Coconut Oil Moisturizer For Dry Skin: Here is an amazing DIY moisturizer for dry skin that you can make right at home with just a few ingredients, including the highly useful coconut oil for skin and skin benefits-rich lavender oil, which has natural antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to nourish and protect your skin.

You will need:

(i) Lavender essential oil: 15–20 drops

(ii) Pure, unrefined coconut oil: 3 ounces

(iii) Shea butter: 1 ounce

(iv) Jojoba oil: 1 ounce

(v) Vitamin E oil: ½ teaspoon

(vi) Aloe vera gel: 1 ounce, preferably freshly squeezed from aloe vera leaf or buy a good quality pure gel without additives – store bought

Method:

(i) Place al the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Blend all the ingredients together using a hand mixer until they  are blended in to a light and fluffy consistency.

(ii) Pour the mixture in a glass jar with air-tight lid and store in cool, dark place. Apply once or twice a day to the skin. If possible, apply to the skin while it is still damp after shower to help seal in moisture.

2. Aloe Vera And Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is super-moisturizing. It is non- sticky, light and so penetrates deep into the skin to keep it soft and supple. Packed with antioxidants, it also helps fight free radicals and slow down skin aging. Plus, it has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help fight microbial infections. It is a good source of Vitamin E, which makes it a good hydrating carrier oil for dry skin.

Aloe vera gel is soothing for your skin and has number of benefits for skin. It has ability to keep your skin firm and hydrated. Being rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly the antioxidant vitamin E, it rejuvenates your skin and induces cell regeneration. Its healing properties make it a good choice for healing sunburned skin and fading skin spots.

You will need:

(i) Fresh aloe vera gel: 4 teaspoons

(ii) Extra-virgin coconut oil: 2 teaspoons

(iii) Vitamin E oil: ¼ teaspoon

(iv) Any essential oil of your choice (optional)

Method:

(i) Put about 4 teaspoons of aloe vera gel into a blender. Melt 2 teaspoons of coconut oil in a microwave or double-boiler, then add it to the aloe vera gel in blender. Add ½ teaspoon of vitamin E oil.

(ii) Blend the mixture for a couple of minutes.

(iii) Optionally, stir in a few drops of an essential oil of your choice.

Transfer the mixture into a glass container and store it in refrigerator. It will last for several weeks. Use it all over your body as you would use any other moisturizer. To increase its effectiveness, apply it after bathing when your skin is somewhat moist to help lock in the moisture.

3. Olive Oil: This is an amazing oil if you have really dry skin—there’s a reason Mediterranean women have used it as a moisturizer for centuries. Olive oil’s chemical distribution is similar to the skin’s own natural oil (known as sebum); it softens and smoothes your skin, leaving it supple while locking in moisture. In addition, olive oil is high in antioxidants that make it so good for your skin; while fighting free radicals it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.

Method: You can apply extra virgin olive oil directly to your skin as a moisturizer. For an olive oil emulsion, mix equal parts of oil and water with a hand-held frother, or apply pure oil to your skin while it’s still moist.

4. Grapeseed Oil: A by-product of wine-making, grapeseed oil comes from the seeds of pressed grapes. It is believed to work as good as over-the-counter creams that cost hundreds of dollars per bottle. Many holistic skin care professionals claim it the best oil for skin, irrespective of your skin type. It’s particularly good for thin skin around your eyes and neck, and can even fade away fine lines. In addition, grapeseed oil is a rich source of vitamin C, which brightens your skin.

Method: You do not have to make a combination with any other ingredient. Keep it, as you brought it from the store. Massage your whole body gently before or after a bath regularly to experience a radical improvement in your skin condition.

5. DIY Dry Skin Moisturizer: Take 4 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, few drops of rose oil, 1 tablespoon of essential almond oil, 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive  oil. Mix all the ingredients well and store it in your refrigerator. Use it as a moisturizer for dry skin before or after taking shower as you like.
