Learn in this article How To Get Rid of Sunspots Fast:
Are you concerned about sunspots on your skin skin? If yes, then you have come to the right place to know how do you get rid of sunspots on face and skin.

How to get rid of sunspots on face and skin
What are sunspots? The sunspots can be darker or lighter than your normal skin tone and can occur in different shapes and colors. They usually occur on areas of the skin that get regularly exposed to sun, and particularly appear on your nose, cheeks, upper lip, ears, forehead, neck, arms, back of your hands. They might look like raised warts and cause slight itching. They may also look like scaly or rough skin lesion, and sometimes can be flat even.
Are skin sunspots the same as freckles? No, Freckles and Sun spots may look similar but are two different things. The sunspots are normally harmless and can occur at any age. They are caused by over exposure to sun. Freckles on the other hand are tiny brownish spots on human skin that occur in case of those people who have fair complexion and usually occur on face.
Causes of skin sun spots? The sunspots on your skin, the so called solar lentingines, are caused by direct, prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays or from artificial sources of ultraviolet rays, like from a tanning bed. The people with lighter skin are more likely to get sunspots skin. Some people have sun allergies, which then can cause sunspots skin from being in sun for any length of time. And in some cases some people’s body produce an increased amount of melanin, which is responsible for developing darker areas on their skin. Other factor responsible for sunspots on skin is sunburn.
We all know the risk of sun damage to skin, such as sun burning or premature ageing. Increased exposure to sun leads to sun spots on skin, which can make you look older than your real age. Nobody likes to look older than that what one is.
How to get rid of sunspots on face and skin: Knowing the factors that can cause sun spots will help in getting rid of sunspots on face and skin. But our advice is to check with a dermatologist first, if you are worried about spots on your skin. If your dermatologist finds them to be of harmless kind, then you can apply any of the methods outlined in this article to remove sun spots. Before we get into how to remove sun spots, let us first understand ways to prevent skin sunspots.
1. How to prevent skin sunspots: As over exposure to sun is the most common culprit, so obviously limiting your exposure to sun is the best way to prevent skin sun spots. As your arms, hands, face, neck and shoulders are regularly exposed to sun, so keeping covered these areas will certainly prevent skin sunspots. If you don’t want to use shade or umbrella, then the other ways to prevent sunspots skin are:
(i) Use sunscreen protection: Fifteen minutes before you head outside, apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day to ensure that your skin is guarded from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 when the sun rays are very harsh on your skin between 10 am and 4 pm, as at that time the sun is at its hottest. Invest in good quality sun blocks with enough SPF levels to protect your skin from further sun damage to skin. Do not solely depend on moisturizers, foundations and cosmetics that contain sunscreen. In spite of all these, you still need to use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun.
(ii) If you stay in car too much, you are likely to get more of UVB rays, which are responsible for skin sunspots. On the other hand UVA rays cause sunburns. So to prevent skin sun spots, consider installing an anti-UVB coating on your car’s windows.
(iii) Avoid using tanning booths.
2. Getting rid of sunspots naturally: Use these all-natural remedies to get rid of skin sunspots at home and get your glowing skin back again.
(i) Apple Cider Vinegar And Lemon Juice To Lighten Sun And Age Spots: Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) contains natural alpha hydroxyl acids, which help in lightening sun and age spots. Lemon juice contains citric acid which is known to lighten darkened areas of the skin.
Mix about 1/2 teaspoon of ACV and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. Every night saturate a cotton ball with this mixture. Start from forehead and work down to apply evenly all over your face and other affected areas. You will experience a little redness or fell some stinging at first, which is normal (just like you would experience with a toner). If you have a sensitive skin, or it feels too strong dilute the mixture with a little water. Do not rinse and leave it overnight to get better results. This remedy tends to make your skin more sensitive to sun exposure, so make it sure that you wear sunscreen every day.
Since, this is a natural treatment, so you will need to apply this consistently for at least six weeks to see a difference.
(ii) Lemon Juice to remove sunspots: Lemons contain mild acid which helps in lightening the skin spots that are dark, contributes in getting rid of dead skin cells and facilitates regeneration of new skin cells. You can either lightly rub fresh lemon slice or even lemon juice directly on the affected areas, a couple of times a day. Both work as skin lightener. Let the lemon juice sit on the skin sunspots for twenty minutes, then wash it off. A word of caution here is that lemon juice makes your skin extra sensitive to sun, so never go out in sun with lemon juice on your skin, rather be sure to cover the affected areas when you’re going out in sun. Also if you have dry skin then it can make your skin feel drier, so moisturize your skin after applying this home remedy.
Caution: If you have very sensitive skin, the lemon juice may irritate your skin, so try to dilute the lemon juice with water, rose water or honey.
An alternative option is to mix enough sugar with lemon juice to make a spreadable paste of uniform consistency. Use it as a scrub on your face and other affected areas. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes, and then rinse it off. Apply this natural remedy few times a week. If you have dry skin, add in some olive in this homemade recipe.
(iii) Aloe Vera to prevent sun damage to skin: Aloe Vera has significant natural healing properties, so you can apply aloe vera gel two times a day to heal sun damage skin and regenerate skin cells naturally. You can squeeze out aloe vera gel directly from the plant or use a good quality herbal cream enriched with aloe vera. Continue this home remedy for at least two months to make skin sunspots to slowly and effectively fade away.
(iv) Green Tea bag: Green tea is a rich source of anti-oxidants, which can help in healing skin sun damage. Soak a green tea bag in boiling water for some time, squeeze the tea bag onto a cotton ball and rub the damp ball over the sunspots skin two times a day.
(v) Milk or Butter Milk: For sunspots on face, apply milk and let it remain there for 15 minutes, and then wash of your face. Milk contains lactic acid, which helps in lightening skin and regenerating skin cells. Similarly buttermilk can help to remove sun spots on face.
Other professional treatments for getting rid of sunspots: In case you are not getting any positive response from the above at home skin sunspot remedies, we advise you to visit your dermatologist. While it’s true that usually skin sun spots are harmless and not cancerous, still to rule out the risk take the opinion of a skin specialist. There are a range of sun skin spot treatment options available besides above all-natural remedies. These treatments include over-the-counter drugs, chemical peels, dermatological procedures, like laser therapy, cryotherapy, freezing, dermabrasion, etc. For example, whereas laser therapy annihilates the cells that generate extra pigment, the cryotherapy, or freezing, on the other hand, annihilates the extra pigment itself. Dermabrasion and chemical peels both work to eliminate the top layer of sun damaged skin, so that a fresh new layer is regenerated. The dermatologist will diagnose and suggest you which one of these would work best in your case.
If you feel these types of professional treatments are too costly for your pocket, then you can consider over-the-counter products as a topical approach to get rid of skin sunspots. But still before trying these, consider consulting your dermatologist to find out which one will work best for you.
Good advice im going to try the lemon. Hoping it works!
Lemon is an excellent natural remedy in lightening your skin. It contains mild acid that works to lighten skin spots that are dark, helps in getting rid of dead skin cells and facilitates regeneration of new skin cells.
Does it really work
@ elvia:
Yes, it’s one of the best natural remedy for lightening dark skin spots..
thank you for the help. i will try using lemon to lighten the spots on my face.
Which do you think will work better? ACV & lemon? Or just lemon by itself?
@ Natalie:
To take the benefits of both use this recipe: You can use apple cider vinegar and lemon juice as a skin toner. Mix equal parts of freshly squeezed lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. Add water to dilute the mixture as needed, depending on the sensitivity of your skin. You can add a few drops of essential oil if desired. Take a little bit of the mixture on a cotton pad and apply over face after cleansing. You can do it 1-2 times daily followed with your favorite pH-balanced moisturizer (I love facial oil blends.)
I read an article, recently saying that lemon is not good for sun spots as it increases the chance of more brown spots appearing!!
@ Mishka:
Lemon juice is a carrier of Citric Acid which is commonly used in products to have a “brightening effect” on the skin as well as exfoliating the surface. So, one can use it to lighten the appearance of brown spots. In any case, lemon juice being a natural product will not harm your skin, at least it can exfoliate the skin somewhat giving the appearance of lighter spots, But take care while applying it as suggested in the article.
I want to start a face regiment. Recently I got a sunspot on my cheek from over exposure to the sun. I want to know the 4 things to apply and how often? What are my steps? So first cleanser, then the apple cider recipe, then moisturizer, then sunscreen?
Cleanser- What should I use? I have somewhat dry skin but nothing problematic, never had acne, very mild to normal
Toner-apple cider
Moisturizer- What is a good natural brand?
sunscreen- what is a good natural brand?
Thank you!!

Pls can i use lime instead of lemon?
@Nkulo:
Like lemon, lime belongs to the citrus family and as such, is a valuable resource of citric acid. It is going to be a little more mild, but not much. Pretty much anything you’d do with lemon, you can do with lime. The pH of an average lemon is about 2.0 while the pH of an average lime is about 2.3. The lower the pH the more acidic the substance is, so lemon is just a tiny bit more acidic than lime. It shouldn’t matter much. If you’re really concerned, just use a little bit of extra lime juice in skin treatments.
I have a hyper pigmentation mark that is red in color from a cold sore 4 years ago…Do you think lemon may help it fade to my natural skin tone and not be red?
@ Eric:
Try it for few weeks and if you see some improvement then continue till your problem is fixed……
How long will it take to remove the sunspots from lemon and do we have to apply twice ?
@Anon:
It all depends on the cause for your sunspots. Please keep in mind this is a natural treatment, so you will need to apply this consistently for at least 6 weeks to see a difference. You can apply it a couple of times a day. Also follow the precautions mentioned above.
mam

Thank you very much for the comprehensive article. I use a few drops of orange oil in my nightly moisturizer, and that helps. However using orange oil during the day (when you will have exposure to sun) is not recommended, because it will spot your skin further.
MAM,
MY CHEEKS ARE BURNT BY GARLIC WHAT SHALL I DO?
@ ashima mandal:
Garlic is effective at drying/killing a pimple but definitely should NOT be left on longer than 30 second or so…
It is important to treat garlic burns as soon as possible so that you do not suffer from permanent discoloration.
Now you can apply following natural remedies:
(i) Avoid sun as far as possible. Use a good sunscreen.
(ii) Apply raw organic honey. Raw honey is so gentle and a natural antibacterial and will really moisturize and soothe the burns left by the garlic. It’s also great to do as a mask for 15 minutes or so if you feel like your skin is tight and dry.
(iii) Soak a cotton pad in cold full-fat milk and place it on the area for at least 20 minutes. Milk contains fats that help to combat the acidic effects of the garlic. In addition to this, it also helps to speed-up healing.
(iv) Blend a small piece each of cucumber and carrot to make a paste. Apply this paste to your face for a minimum of 30 minutes before you wash it off with cold water. Carrot and cucumber help to rejuvenate and heal the injured skin.
MAM,
THANK U MAM VERY MUCH.
HOW MANY DAYS ARE REQUIRED TO SERVE THAT GARLIC BURN ON THE CHEEK.
@ ashima:
It all depends on the extent to which your skin got burnt and how old these burns are? Try these remedies for 5-6 weeks, and slowly your skin will heal-up.
MAM’
THANK U
I PUT THE GARLIC ON THE CHEEK FOR 1 HOUR. AND IT IS ATLEAST A MONTH AFTER THAT INCIDENT THAT MY SPOT DID NOT GO.
@ashimaa:
The remedies that I have suggested are the mild ones. Try these for few weeks, and then let me know the results.
When i go out to sun i get brown and dark spots and my face is burning really bad. I try to avoid sun but in some cases you just cant so can please tell me what do i use to get rid this thanks
@ khan kaka:
Please go through the above point number 1 – “How to prevent skin sunspots”. These are good measures to save you from the Sun’s harsh rays………
Can a sunspot give you lighter patches of skin instead of darker patches of skin, and if so would these methods work on the lighter patches as well?
@ Kenny:
Generally the sun-spots are dark in color.
Try these remedies: https://naturalbeautytips.co/how-to-even-skin-tone-on-face/
So sunspot can almost be lighter tone right? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I’m very new to this and is wondering about this very much.
@ Kenny:
As the sun exposure makes your skin dark, so I don’t think they can be in a light tone……..
Hello. Every time in summer when I like to out in the sun, there is always light sun blotches on my face. Most remedies recommend to stay out the sun but, I’m a teenager and a swim lover. There’s no way to keep me out of the sun. Now most people say to purchase some good sunscreen. Problem is, in my local store, good sunscreen is expensive! I understand the remedies listed above are meant for dark sunspots, but do you have any recommendations for light sun blotches?
@ Julia:
You can use above remedies for light sun blotches as well. You can use these remedies also: https://naturalbeautytips.co/how-to-remove-blemishes-from-your-face/
Moreover, there are some oils, butters, and essential oils that provide natural sun protection. However, these offer low amounts of sun protection. You can try any one of these (use organic) as per your choice, before going for swimming:
.
(i) Almond oil, Coconut oil, Red Raspberry seeds oil, Carrot seeds oil – contains natural SPF properties
.
(ii) Shea butter – naturally protects skin, good for use in a sunscreen.
(iii) Jojoba oil, or sesame oil – these oils are easily absorbed into the skin and also provide some natural sun protection.
Hi I’m abit confused with the remedies of removing sunspots. I’m keen on trying but what’s the different if I only used lemon juice or with ACV plus lemon juice? And for lemon juice must it be freshly squeeze juice from lemon or I can get those bottle lemon juice from the store? Thank you
@ Karen:
(i) You can use either of these remediess. If you combine lemon juice and ACV, it will cover wider skin issues. While Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) contains natural alpha hydroxyl acids, which help in lightening sun and age spots, lemon juice contains citric acid which is known to lighten darkened areas of the skin.
(ii) It’s always better to use freshly squeezed juices as they are without any preservatives. Also over time the efficacies of vitamins, minerals weaken.
My spots are white spots not dark spots from the sun could I still use this lemon remedy?
@ Katie:
White spots on the skin generally indicate a loss of skin pigmentation. These may develop as small spots or large patches, and can appear anywhere on the body. This skin disorder can be because of different skin conditions, the most common of which is vitiligo.
I suggest that you consult a dermatologist to diagnose the root cause and take treatment accordingly. However, one can neither prevent nor permanently cure vitiligo
Ok thank you. I was hoping I didn’t have to go see a Derm and wishing I could find a natural remedy to possibly cure my problem. Bummer. Ok thanks for your help! 🙂
Hi Katie, I also have white spots and was wondering if anything worked out in your best interest?
Hello
I have a lot of white spots in my upper back, also a few in shoulders, neck and chest, I had a strong acne and I pulled out them I had a bunch of hours at the sun when I was young, I lived in Cuba and there is sun along the years, I think I lost the melanin in those parts of my body, I am in shame with those spots and I wonder if there are remedies to help me get rid of them.
I am 12 years old and I have Hawaiian skin. I just got sunburn and its done but I have sunspots. IS there any other way than lemon?
@ nainoa:
Try these home remedies to remove sunspots:
(i) Potatoes act as natural skin lighteners, so can be used on skin to remove dark sunspots. Cut potatoes into slices or make a paste and apply it onto your hands, legs front and back. Let it remain for about 15 minutes and then wash. An enzyme contained in potato helps to remove sunspots and make skin fair naturally.
(ii) Apply freshly squeezed orange juice onto your face to provide vitamin C to skin. Vitamin C helps to lighten spots and makes skin fair and glowing. Extract the orange juice and apply it onto your face in its pure form, leaving it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse it off. This remedy can also be used to lighten pimple scars.

I have been using dermalmd lightening serum for the last 10 days on my forearms and hands. I have a few sunspots on my arms and hands that I have been trying to lighten using the serum. I would say that the lighter sunspots have lightened one shade, but I am still waiting for the darker sunspots to fade. I use this serum twice a day on my sensitive skin. I am continuing to use the serum and I have not had any allergic reactions to dermalmd.
This was a wonderful informative post you shared on this page with the outstanding steps to eliminate the mole from the Sensitive skin of hand in a seven days by using the hemp seed oil daily according to the period of a time after the recommendations of a doctor and remember the instructions of a doctor which help you to eliminate this kind of disease rapidly , You must go to a doctor one time in a week for starting of proper treatment of eliminating moles appeared on the Sensitive skin of hand and finger in a summer season due to the effect of sun rays,Keep it in your mind don’t work in the light of sun because the heat of sun with the dust particles of sun rays increase the mole disease on the skin due to the demaged of skin layers cells after the working of some time you notice the color of skin become black and moles are increased on the Sensitive skin of a body this is also a effect of skin cancer . So take care of skin and avoid to work in a light of sun . you also use a mask on the face if necessary to work in the light of sun and also use carrot in the food salad .
Thanks.
Hello mam, I have so many brownish spots on my face since 5-6 years can I use this lemon juice remedy on my skin bcz I hv sensitive skin…
Don’t use lemon on sensitive skin. Try other remedies given in the article..
Great post! I’ve been looking for this. Aloe Vera will somehow repair the sun damage just continue using it.
I love dermalmd even tone serum and have been using it for the last two years. It really helps with sun spots and even out your skin tone. I received a lot of compliments and not bad for the price. I used to use the more expensive products and it didn’t work as well as this one. Love it!!!
