In this article, you will find skin benefits of yogurt & lemon and how to make & use diy yogurt & lemon facial mask at home for skin brightening, anti-aging & acne-clearing skin benefits.
Are Lemons and Yogurt Good For Your Skin
Dairy and lemon juice may be an unusual pairing, but the lemon and yogurt face mask is an exception. Both lemon and yogurt are good for skin. They can be beneficially used for skin brightening & lightening or, anti-aging and acne-clearing benefits.
Lemon Benefits For Skin
Lemon being a citrus fruit – it’s rich in vitamin C. This acts as a natural bleaching agent that helps brighten skin complexion. Vitamin C also works as an antioxidant that protects the skin from sun damage and aging.
The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology reported in 2017 that vitamin C is the most potent antioxidant for skin. The researchers observed that topical vitamin C could prevent sun damage, pigmentation and aging. However, since the research on topical use of vitamin C is limited, the researchers reported that more studies are needed to reach to a final conclusion.
Lemon juice also contains alpha hydroxy acid (AKA), which is used in beauty industry for formulating products to help even out skin tone & improve discoloration. This AHA gently exfoliates skin and prevents acne breakouts.
Yogurt Skin Benefits
Yogurt can be used topically to provide hydrating, rejuvenating as well as acne-clearing benefits to the skin. The lactic acid present in yogurt acts as an AHA that helps remove dead skin cells, revealing smooth, new skin from underneath. Lactic acid also has anti-aging properties, which help maintain the skin moisturized, firm & clear.
Fermented yogurt is high in good bacteria, known as probiotics, may be even more beneficial for the skin. A study published in the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology in May 2015 reported that topical application of probiotic-containing facial creams were found to be effective in reducing inflammation, increasing antimicrobial properties of the skin and decreasing acne severity.
Lemon & Yogurt For Skin Brightening
Some people want to brighten their overall complexion, while others simply want to lighten dark spots. One natural way to do this is using lemon and yogurt for skin lightening.
Both lemon & yogurt have skin lightening properties. When mixed together, the vitamin C present in citric acid in lemons and the lactic acid in yogurt can brighten skin. Using a lemon and yogurt facemask can lighten dark areas such as age spots and hyper-pigmentation.
As per one report published in April 2018 in the journal Molecules – the researchers studied the effects of lactic acid & other AHAs to find out their skin benefits. They discovered that in small concentrations, AHAs could provide protection to the skin from harmful external factors, and thus could help in preventing damage to skin DNA.
