All Natural Oatmeal Lavender Facial Scrub

About a year ago, I shifted my residence to a mountain city. While I loved this new place but my skin started playing very naughty. So, I decided to give my skin a treat every once in a while. I thought, I would start using a natural face scrub to help slough off all of that dead skin and bring some light back into my face.

Oatmeal Lavender face scrub is great for removing dead skin cells and polishing the skin. As it exfoliates, the face scrub helps to increase circulation and uncover the radiant skin beneath.

Let me share a secret with you. I have a penchant for DIY homemade beauty products, especially those which can be made with all organic and deliciously smelling ingredients! Moreover, I am of the view that when it comes making beauty products at home, simplicity should be the key. So, I decided to try making a homemade lavender oatmeal facial scrub. Read on here for 3 do it yourself recipes for making oatmeal-lavender natural scrubs suitable for all types of skin, even sensitive skin.

Gentle Oatmeal, Lavender, Baking Soda And Sea Salt Facial Scrub

This scrub has just four ingredients: oatmeal, lavender, baking soda and sea salt. Add these all together and you have one fabulous face scrub. This oatmeal lavender facial scrub while gently exfoliating skin also helps to soothe and calm skin. It is useful for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Oatmeal: Oatmeal is not only moisturizing and a gentle exfoliant, but is also great at absorbing oil and impurities.

According to the New Zealand Dermatologist Society, the oatmeal provides following benefits to the skin:

(i) develops a barrier to guard skin against irritants and helps maintain normal skin pH

(ii) moisturizes skin with water-binding polysaccharides, hydrocolloids and fats

(iii) calms itchy, dry skin because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties

(iv) saves skin from sun damage (photo aging)

(v) lessens prostaglandin production and arachidonic acid release

Lavender

Lavender is very soothing and anti-inflammatory. It’s one of my favorite herbs. I use both lavender flowers and lavender essential oil in this recipe. Both of them help soothe and heal skin. While the flowers intensify exfoliation, the lavender essential oil augments skin friendly properties. And both smell incredible too!

Baking Soda And Sea Salt

Lavender and oatmeal are very gentle. So, to enhance the scrubbing power I suggest that you add little bit of baking soda and sea salt. Baking soda is a fine powder, so it works like a microdermabrasion to gently exfoliate the skin. On the other hand, sea salt is somewhat coarser – so I suggest that you add only a small amount so as not to let it overpower the other ingredients. I recommend that you try Himalayan sea salt, which is my favorite because it nourishes the skin with quite a good range of beneficial minerals.

You will need:

Method:

(i) Put the rolled oats, lavender essential oil, and lavender flowers into a coffee grinder. Pulse for about 45-60 seconds so as to grind the ingredients together. If you don’t have a coffee grinder, you can use a blender.

(ii) Transfer the grounded ingredients to a glass bowl and mix in the baking soda and sea salt.

(iii) Store the face scrub in a glass jar.

(iv) When you want to scrub your face, neck or chest skin, mix 2 teaspoons of the scrub with 1 ½ teaspoon of water or milk. Gently scrub across the face using your fingers.

Natural Beauty Tips:

(a) If you like, you may also mix in aloe vera gel or honey. Both, these two ingredients help to soothe, rejuvenate and calm the skin.

(b) This scrub can also be used as a mask. For this purpose, you just have to mix the scrub with a liquid of your choice until it’s a thick paste, and smooth over your skin. After about 20-30 minutes, rinse the mask off with warm water.
