Extra Virgin Olive Oil For Skin Benefits – How To Use Olive Oil For Skin?

Is Olive Oil Good For Skin? The answer is a big yes!! Olive oil’s chemical structure is more close to the skin’s natural oil as compared to that of any other natural oil, making olive oil good for skin.

1. Olive Oil Bath: Do you know beauty secret of Sophia Loren, the Italian gorgeous actress – she loved taking olive oil bath.

(i) The simplest way to prepare olive oil bath is just to add 5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil into your bathtub and it’s done! If you like, you may add more. This is a simple beauty trick to make your skin soft and smooth.

(ii) Another simple way to have olive oil on skin is that you just massage your body with extra virgin oil before taking bath. After you are through with your bath, pat dry your skin and wipe away the excess oil. Wow!! You will feel your skin as incredibly soft and smooth, just like a baby-skin.

2. Olive Oil Body Lotion: Try olive oil as a body lotion. It’s all natural and wonderfully very effective. Apply it all over your body, while in the shower, right after you use the shower gel. You will feel your skin amazingly soft and smooth. This is another simple way to make your skin look perfect, healthy and tender to touch.

3. Olive Oil – A Natural Makeup Remover:  It serves dual purpose. While gently removing makeup, it nourishes your skin as well. Just put a dab of olive oil on a cotton ball or pad, and gently wipe out all the makeup from your face. If you want to remove heavy makeup, first massage gently olive oil all over your face, and then wipe away all the makeup with a soft washcloth soaked with warm water. If needed, repeat it a couple of times and make it sure to do it gently – never rub your skin harshly. Rinse your face with warm water followed by a splash with cold water. Cold water will not only close your skin pores, but stimulate the blood circulation as well.

(i) Another way to make a makeup remover or cleanser is by mixing together olive oil and castor oil. If you have dry skin, mix more of olive oil and in case you have oily skin then mix more of castor oil and less of olive oil.

(ii) If you are concerned about the oiliness the olive oil leaves behind, that hitch can simply be resolved by washing your face with a face wash of your choice after you have removed makeup with olive oil.

4. Olive Oil For Sensitive Skin: It is a very good option for those even having sensitive skin. If you are concerned about the oiliness it leaves behind, that hitch can simply be resolved by washing your face with a face wash of your choice after you have removed makeup with olive oil. This will also make sure that there are no traces of makeup left behind on your face.

Tip: You can use olive oil as a gentle eye makeup remover too. It is so effective that even you can remove waterproof makeup with its help.

5. Olive Oil Rejuvenates Skin: The prime reason behind beauty benefits of olive oil is that it is packed with healthy fats and phenolic antioxidant vitamin E accompanied by squalene and oleic acids. They work to get rid of free radicals and repair the damage done because of any skin’s exposure to the sun.

6. Olive Oil As Stretch Marks Home Remedy: Olive oil helps in regeneration of skin and increasing elasticity of the skin as well. Massage olive oil over the affected areas at least three times a week to improve the elasticity of the skin and its regenerative abilities, which will help heal the affected skin. This will not only prevent formation of new stretch marks, but will also work to reduce and lighten the existing ones slightly.

7. Olive Oil To Prevent Premature Ageing: Olive oil contains hydroxytyrosol and vitamin E that act on the skin to prevent skin cells degeneration, thus olive oil helps in preventing premature ageing. Further, olive oil also has squalene acid that works to increase the elasticity of the skin, thus preventing sagging of the skin and making it firm, young and healthy.

8. Olive Oil As Sunscreen: Mix equal amounts of olive oil and tea decoction (tea boiled in water and strained). Apply this mixture all over your body and face. Let it sit there for about an hour, and then rinse it off (don’t wash), so as to leave a residue on your skin. This will work as a natural sunscreen.

Natural Beauty Benefits Of Olive Oil For Skin

(i)  It works as an effective natural moisturizer, even on the dry skin.

(ii) You can use olive oil to moisturize even the super dry skin prone areas, such as elbows and knees.

(iii) Olive oil can regenerate skin tissues and therefore you can use it regularly to keep your skin young, firm and free from wrinkles and fine lines.

(iv) You can make a homemade moisturizer by mixing well together equal parts of oil and water in a jar. Massage your skin with this solution and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

(v) Try this olive oil moisturizing mask. Blend together 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and yolk of one egg. Apply on a clean face, leaving it there for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. This will not only moisturize your skin, but will maintain your natural skin tone too.

(vi) Try this olive oil mask to rejuvenate your skin. Make a paste of olive oil and mashed ripe avocados. Apply this mask on to your face for 20-25 minutes, and then rinse it off.

(vii) If you have super dry skin, apply olive oil as a night cream. Apply a small amount of olive oil on your face and let it sit there for overnight. Wake up in the morning with soft and smooth skin.

(viii) Effective blood circulation is necessary for having natural glow on your skin. Massage olive oil on your body to augment the blood circulation to keep your skin moisturized and young.

Benefits Of Olive Oil For Hair – How To Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil For Hair?

Is olive oil good for hair, Yes, just as olive oil acts as an effective moisturizing agent on your skin, it has similar benefits on the hair too. Olive oil works wonders for dry damaged hair that can otherwise cause other hair problems, such as split ends and frizzy hair. To nurture those dry manes give your hair a hot olive oil hair massage. Make it sure that olive oil is not heated too much and too long, as it will lose its benefits.

1. Olive Oil Hair Treatment – Eggs And Olive Oil For Hair: This olive oil hair mask / treatment is fast and easy to prepare and takes only 15 minutes to apply and through with it. Blend 1 egg yolk with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Massage your hair and keep it there for about 15 minutes. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.  Your hair will look and feel shinier and soft.

2. All Alone Olive Oil Hair Treatment: This olive oil hair mask / treatment is the most easy to follow. Simply massage slightly warmed up olive oil on your hair. Allow it to sit on your tresses for about an hour, then shampoo and condition as you normally do. If after shampoo your hair still feels oily, you may need to do shampoo twice to get rid of greasiness. Your hair will look and feel healthier and shiny after this olive oil hair treatment.

3. Those who have dry, frizzy or split ends can massage their tresses with lightly warmed olive oil. As said earlier, don’t heat the olive oil too much, as it loses its properties even at low temperature.

How To Strengthen Nails With Olive Oil

Want to grow longer, stronger and shiny nails? Use following extra virgin olive oil recipes for your nails:

1. Extra virgin olive oil massage is ideal for dry nails and cuticles. Forego the expensive hand and cuticle creams, instead massage a couple of olive oil drops onto the cuticles and around the nails. Its regular use will make your cuticles stay moist and nails shiny.

2. Alternatively, give a warm olive oil bath to your nails. It’s a great way to strengthen them. It will take just 5-10 minutes. Simply soak your nails in a slightly warm olive oil. Remember not to heat it too much, as it loses its properties at high temperature. Apply this olive oil nails treatment once or twice a week to strengthen your nails. With this treatment they will also look healthy and shiny.

How To Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil For Face Masks – Is Olive Oil Good For Your Face?

Yes olive oil is good for your face.

1. Olive Oil And Egg Yolk Face Mask: This is an effective homemade olive oil face mask. Mix well 1 egg yolk with a tablespoon of olive oil. In case you want this mask to brighten and whiten your skin, add a tea spoon of lemon juice. Lemon juice is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamin C that help to lighten skin. Apply this olive oil face mask onto your clean face. Let it sit there for 5-10 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water, and then with cold water (cold water helps close your skin pores). It will also soften your skin and nourish it as well, adding a youthful glow. This natural olive oil face mask can be used for normal as well as dry skin types.

2. Olive Facial Mask For Normal Skin: Mix thoroughly 1 tablespoon of white cosmetic clay with 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. Apply this mixture onto your face for 10 minutes, and then rinse it off gently with lukewarm water to cleanse and freshen your face.

Olive Oil Eye Cream

To reduce wrinkles and fine lines around your eyes, gently dab a little bit of extra virgin olive oil under your eyes before you sleep at night and let it sit there overnight.  It will nourish the tender skin around your eyes and soften the fine lines. Keep some olive oil in your fridge and use it as a refreshing, vitamin chockfull beauty treatment eye cream.

Natural Beauty Tips

(i) Make sure not to heat olive oil for too long, as olive oil burns it properties even at low heat and loses its beauty and health benefits. Heat it for not more than 20-30 seconds.

(ii) Always buy extra virgin oil or cold pressed olive oil for beauty use, as it tends to lose 80% of its antioxidants contents in the process of refinement.

    • Hi Zoe,

Olive oil works great for oily skin too, because of its non-greasy nature. AS it does not stick, people with oily skin can also use it. You can avoid the face but massage your body with it to enjoy its benefits. For face, you can try following lemon, olive oil face mask / pack, which is great for normal, combination, oily and acne-prone skin:

Mix 1 tea spoon of olive oil, few drops of fresh lemon juice, 1/2 cup of cooked instant oatmeal (cooled) and 1 egg white until smooth. Spread on your face and neck. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. If you feel your facial skin dried-up, follow with your favorite facial moisturizer.

    • @varsha:

Yes you can, but make it sure it is either pure or extra virgin. Pure is a bit heavier, but extra virgin is the best (especially if it’s cold pressed) because it has more of the nutrients olives as compared to Pure. It’s also great for your skin, and I like extra virgin for my skin.

Natura Beauty Tip : Mix it with mayonnaise and egg to do a hot oil pre-treatment before you wash your hair. It will leave your hair soft and shiney.

  1. Thank u so mch for d wonderful post. I just love it. I have black spots on my face. I hv been using apricot scrub for my face and body. It has actually helped to reduce d acne on my face. But can olive oil, with an egg white mixture, take out d black Spots. Thank you

    • @ anon:

Olive oil alone would not help much. If you want to use olive oil then mix it with the lemon juice which acts as a natural skin lightner.

      I would suggest following treatment:

      1. Exfoliate daily with a mild and gentle facial scrub to lift dead skin cells and help fade dark areas around the mouth.

      2. In a small bowl, mix the juice from 1/4 lemon with 1 tablespoon of yogurt or honey to dilute the mixture. Apply to dark areas and allow the mask to dry. Gently rinse the skin clean with warm water.

If you want to try over-the-counter treatment then use a skin brightening cream or serum to lighten dark areas. Pat a thin layer of a moisturizing skin treatment, containing Vitamin C, kojic acid or grapeseed extract, around your mouth. Follow the instructions carefully and don’t use these skin-lightening products for more than three weeks.

Hope this will help! And if you don’t see any improvement in 4-6 weeks, consult with a good dermatologist.

    • @humhaze:

Yes you can apply olive oil all over your face at night, keep it on overnight. and wash it off in the morning.

Try this homemade olive oil night cream for your oily skin: Take one apple, remove its stem and blend it with half a cup of extra virgin. Heat it on a light flame for 10 seconds so that they get mixed well and evenly. Cool it and freeze it in the refrigerator to get a thick consistency. Now mix in 2 spoons of rose water. Your night cream is ready. Apply this on your face at night and wash off next morning. With regular use you will get a beautiful and oil free skin.

  2. Hy.

Can I use OLIVE oil on my oily face and have a few pimples too ? . . and is there anyway to increase my skin colour ?

    • Yes, it’s ok to use olive oil overnight.

You can also mix olive oil with a couple drops of lavender or mint essential oil and apply all over your clean face before you sleep. The oil soaks into the skin and leaves it soft and refreshed in the morning, while the essential oils add a soothing scent.

  3. @ priya:

Olive oil and lemon juice when mixed together provide a good cure for acne and pimples. Simply, mix together 1/8 tsp. of lemon juice with 1/4 tsp. of olive oil. Clean your face using a soft wash cloth and warm water. Apply the mixture on your face and other affected area and let it stay on for 5 to 10 minutes. Clean your face and apply a few drops olive oil on it, while still moist.

But make it sure to use quality extra virgin olive oil. Not only just high quality virgin oil, but preferably the type that is rich in polyphenol.

  6. Hi, I am having some white patches all over my face and my skin is also very dry. Can you please tell me the remedy?? I am worried about my skin.

    • Shruti:

White patches can occur due to many causes such as fungal infections, vitamins deficiency, depigmentation, and many others. For treatment first you need to find out what is the cause for your white patches. So, it’s suggested that you consult a good dermatologist and take treatment accordingly.

  11. My skin is very sensitive n dry due to that there are lots of black marks ovr my legs n arms , does olive oil will help to remove the marks??

    • @ Manju:

Olive oil has hydrating properties that can moisturize and make your skin bright. Honey is a natural humectant that helps lock in moisture. Acidic nature in lemon juice helps to remove impurities and lighten dark spots over the skin. Use this face mask to fade dark spots.

Mix 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4 (quarter) teaspoon of lemon juice together to make a thin paste. Massage the paste into your skin for two to three minutes. Leave in place for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse off.

    • @ Nithi:

A main cause of skin aging, wrinkles and lines is weakening of facial muscles with age. Massage with oils can reverse the weakening. Do forward and back quite firm massage (not circular) using tips and front fingers and sometimes palms. For quickest results do 15/20 min. daily massaging with extra virgin olive oil and in as little as 7 days your skin will look firmer, tighter, smoother, revitalized and rejuvenated.

  12. My skin is Oily. I’ve used good Olive skin oil in my face before sleep and washed in morning which I applied for just 2 days and found there has dark patches coming in forehead. Oil is good looking and so fresh but Do I use only for washing face or applying overnight/ Suggest me pls…

    • @ Ajithbabu:

First, no extra virgin olive oil won’t change the color of your skin.

Don’t put it on heavy, or just like anything else, it will clog your pores.

Extra virgin means that it was not put though any chemical processing – no chemical residues – the best for your skin, body and health.

Just use tiny dabs on dry spots. Most people don’t need moisturizers – if your skin is healthy, you shouldn’t need a moisturizer other than where you shave.

By choosing olive (or any other plain vegetable oil) you are choosing to feed your skin to keep it healthy. In ten or 15 years when your friends are all dealing with skin cancer from the carcinogens in our body care products, you’re going to be very happy you chose natural.

I know. I chose natural. My chemical laden friends from high school are having chunks of cancer cut off their faces. It’s no fun.

If you do get a few pimples, just wipe the area with alcohol or witch hazel to help your body control the bacteria associated with acne.

Keep feeding your skin and have a great day!

    • @ Asmita:

The Mediterranean women have used olive oil on dry skin as a moisturizer for centuries. It provides intense moisture. It contains rich antioxidants, which make it so good for your insides as well as outside skin benefits- fights free radicals created by exposure to sunlight.

  20. I had no idea that olive oil is such an effective treatment for so many things. I particularly like what you said about olive oil being an effective sunscreen. I’ve also heard that coconut oil can provide many similar benefits as olive oil, I’ll have to look more into it though!

    • Wash your hands and use your fingers. That way you will have a better control on how you are applying. Yes, you can use virgin olive oil without adding any thing to it. It entirely depends on your skin type and objective.

This was a most easiest method you shared on this page with the outstanding steps to eliminate the dryness from the Sensitive skin of body in a seven days and increase the beauty of skin by using the hemp seed oil daily according to the period of a time after the recommendations of a doctor and remember the instructions of a doctor which help you to eliminate this kind of skin dryness ,My suggestion is you must go to a doctor one time in a week for starting of proper treatment of eliminating dryness appeared on the Sensitive skin of body for increasing the beauty of skin in a summer season due to the effect of sun rays, keep it in your mind don’t work in the light of sun because the heat of sun with the dust particles of sun rays increase the rough dryness and cracks with lines on the skin due to the demaged of skin layers cells after the working of some time you notice the color of skin become black and cracks with lines are increased on the Sensitive skin of a body this is also a effect of skin cancer . So take care of skin and avoid to work in a light of sun . you also use a mask on the face if necessary to work in the light of sun and also use carrot in the food salad .
