Olive oil has been in use since the ancient times. The Egyptians discovered it as long as about 5 thousand years ago, and they particularly used it for hair and body massage.  Olive oil, when used as a hair mask, gets absorbed into hair shafts and thus is one of the best natural solutions for revitalizing dry and damaged hair. Being a rich emollient, it works as an amazing hair conditioner to make the hair easy to comb and manageable. It adds shine to your hair, so enhances your hair looks and feel. It is non-static and eliminates problem of frizzy hair and prevents hair breakage, too.

How To Make Olive Oil Hair Mask?

You can combine olive oil with other natural ingredients that are needed to treat your hair. This characteristic makes it appropriate for making olive oil hair masks to add strength and shine to all types of hair.

Olive Oil And Honey Hair Mask

If your hair are really damaged and have become drier and dull because of excess exposure  to heat – whether through blow drying, hair ironing, or otherwise, use this homemade hair mask. This hair mask needs just 2 natural ingredients, namely, honey and olive oil. Both are best known for their moisturizing properties.

You will need:

(i) Extra virgin olive oil: 4 tablespoons

(ii) Organic Raw honey: 2 tablespoons (Honey acts as a natural humectant, so it helps to lock in moisture.  It also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that make it good for repairing dry, dull and damaged hair).

(iii) Vitamin E capsules: 3 (It not only helps in fixing damaged hair, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties that will soothe your scalp)

Note: You can adjust the quantities according to volume of your hair.

(i) Put the olive and honey in a glass bowl. Pierce the vitamin E capsules and squeeze out the contents into the mixture and whip up all the ingredients thoroughly. If your mask feels too sticky, dilute it by adding in a little more oil while continuing whisking until you get a mixture of uniform, smooth and manageable consistency.

(ii) To apply the mask evenly all over your hair, divide your hair in 4 parts. First do middle parting throughout your hair and then divide these two parts further in 2 half once more. Now smooth the mask over your damp hair, concentrating on the ends which usually get most dry and damaged. Tuck your hair up, and cover with shower cap, plastic wrap or a plastic grocery bag. Let the mask sit on your hair for about 90 minutes and allow the olive oil and honey infuse your hair completely. The heat entrapped inside the plastic cover will facilitate olive oil and honey absorb into your hair.

(iii) Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo. You may have to shampoo your hair twice to remove the mask entirely from your hair. Follow with conditioner, if you feel any need.

(iv) Your hair will look shinier and supple after using this mask even in the first time itself. To maintain the shine, use this hair mask once a week.

Natural Beauty Tip: Shampoos that are sulfate-free / surfactant-free are more mild on your scalp and hair as compared to other shampoos. Although, they don’t produce the same foamy lather but they clean just equally well.

Olive Oil, Honey And Avocado Hair Mask

Do you know that the same fats and oils contained in an avocado, which make it beneficial for your body health can also make it a good option to repair dry, brittle or damaged hair? Olive oil is also amazingly moisturizing, and it protects your hair from damage— especially if you use a lot of heat on your hair usually. And honey is rich in scalp- and hair-strengthening vitamins (plus, it helps seal in and retain moisture). If you desire, you can also add in a couple of drops of lavender essential oil, which is a natural remedy for the scalp to ward off dandruff and itchy skin and smells good as well.

You will need:

(i) Avocado: 1, ripe, pitted and scooped out (It contains oils that are very close to natural oil produced by your skin and hair, so it works great for dry, frizzy, curly, thick or coarse hair. However, it may be bulky for very fine or thin hair)

(ii) Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil: 2 tablespoons

(iii) Organic Honey: 2 tablespoons

(iv) Lavender essential oil: 2-3 drops (optional)

Adjust the quantities according to volume of your hair.

(i) Put all the ingredients in a glass mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk the mixture until it turns into light color and smooth texture.

(ii) Damp your hair with water. Smooth the mask onto hair – focusing on the ends, where the damage is generally the most (feel free to rub it in a bit). If the roots are oily, start putting the mask 1 inch away from your scalp.

(iii) If you have long hair, clip your hair onto the top of your head. Cover your hair with a shower cap.

(iv) This mask works best when you apply heat. Use a hairdryer on its low setting for about 15 minutes or sit in warm, sunny spots for about 30 minutes.

(v) Remove shower cap, rinse out mask thoroughly. Follow with gentle shampoo and condition hair as usual.

Natural Beauty Tip:

If your hair doesn’t need a lot of conditioning, you can do this once a month, or even less frequently. However, if your hair is really dry you can do it every two weeks. Skip this mask, if your hair is normally thin or limp as it’s really deep conditioning and might weigh your hair down.
