Why buy a sea salt scrub for $20 when you can make your own salt scrubs at home for just a few bucks. A sea salt scrub is easy to make at home and perhaps you might already be having the ingredients in your kitchen to whip up a batch!
A basic sea salt body scrub just requires 2 simple ingredients:
(a) Sea salt to gently exfoliate & clean your skin; and
(ii) A light oil to nourish and moisturize skin. You can scrub your whole body with it while taking shower, leaving your skin soft and beautiful.
For added benefits, you can also mix in an essential oil of your choice.
How To Make Sea Salt Body Scrub At Home?
(i) Sea salt: 1 cup, unrefined
Note: Use fine sea salt. Don’t use simple table salt — it’s too harsh and being abrasive, it can cause tiny cuts on your skin. On the other hand, fine sea salt has the appropriate size & density with gentle exfoliating properties for making a body scrub.
For those who have sensitive skin, I recommend a sugar scrub, which is gentler than a salt scrub.
(ii) Oil: 1/2 cup
Note: Use extra virgin olive oil, which is great for the skin. Alternatively, you can use sweet almond, jojoba or grape seed oil. I don’t recommend simple cooking oil from your pantry because they are heavily processed and not healthy for using on your skin.
(iii) Essential oil: 5-10 drops (optional), high quality
Note: You don’t have to necessarily use any essential oil for this body scrub. However, depending upon what you are aiming for, you can use an essential oil for infusing aromatic and/or therapeutic part to your sea salt body scrub.
(a) Lavender: for stress relief and relaxation
(b) Grapefruit: is wonderful for uplifting and may help with cellulite reduction.
(c) Peppermint: is invigorating can help with minor daily aches
(d) Rosemary: is stimulating
(e) Lemongrass: is refreshing
(f) Frankincense: is anti-aging
Caution: Use only high quality essential oils because every thing that you put on your skin absorbs into your skin.
(i) Put the salt in clean, dry glass bowl. Add the oil and combine well using a wooden spoon or stick, until you get a smooth texture mixture – moist enough to hold together, but not overly oily.
(ii) You can adjust the amounts of sea salt and oil to get the desired texture.
(iii) Add in the drops of essential oil and once again mix well. Your DIY scrub is ready. Transfer to an airtight glass jar.
(iv) To use: Once a week, massage the scrub gently into the skin while you are in shower. Rinse off with warm water. Be careful because this scrub may make the floor slippery.
